A wrong-way driver on the M50 has left nine people injured, including eight teenagers, after a serious two-vehicle collision on one of Ireland’s busiest motorways.
The crash happened when a car travelling in the wrong direction collided head-on with another vehicle. The impact left all nine occupants injured, with emergency services rushing to the scene to deal with the aftermath.
The M50, which serves as Dublin’s main orbital motorway and carries tens of thousands of vehicles every day, was the scene of what could have been an even more catastrophic incident. Wrong-way driving collisions are among the most dangerous types of road accidents, given the combined speed of vehicles travelling directly towards each other.
Gardaí and ambulance crews attended the scene following the collision. The eight teenagers and one adult male were all treated for their injuries, though the full extent of those injuries has not yet been confirmed.
