A motorcyclist in his 30s has been killed following a crash in County Galway, gardai have confirmed.
The fatal collision happened on a road in the Galway area, with emergency services rushing to the scene after the alarm was raised. Despite their efforts, the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gardai have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who was travelling in the area around the time of the incident, to come forward. Anyone with dashcam footage that could assist the investigation is also being urged to contact their local garda station.
The road was closed for a period following the collision to allow for a technical examination of the scene by garda forensic collision investigators. These examinations are standard procedure following any fatal road traffic incident and help establish the exact circumstances of what happened.
The death adds to a deeply concerning trend of fatalities on Irish roads in recent times. Road safety campaigners have repeatedly highlighted the dangers faced by motorcyclists in particular, who are among the most vulnerable road users and are significantly overrepresented in fatal collision statistics.
