Cork MMA fighter Joshua Allen has been given three weeks to indicate how he intends to plead on nine separate charges, including allegations that he assaulted gardaí and was in possession of drugs and a knife.
Allen appeared before Cork District Court where the charges were formally put to him. The case was adjourned to give him and his legal team time to consider their position across the full list of allegations.
The charges against him are wide-ranging. As well as the alleged assaults on gardaí, Allen is also facing a dangerous driving charge and counts related to possession of a controlled substance and a bladed weapon. The combination of charges paints a picture of a single incident or series of events that gardaí say involved significant confrontation.
Allen is a well-known figure in Irish MMA circles, having competed at a high level in the sport. His appearance in court has drawn attention given his profile in combat sports, where he has built up a following through his fighting career.
