West Yorkshire Police are asking the public to come forward with information after a racially aggravated public order offence was reported in Leeds city centre.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch, as they look to piece together exactly what happened and identify those responsible.
Racially aggravated offences are taken seriously by police and can carry heavier sentences than standard public order charges under UK law. These offences involve behaviour that is either motivated by racial hostility or where the offender demonstrates hostility based on someone’s race or ethnicity during the incident.
Leeds city centre is a busy area with high footfall throughout the day and evening, and police are hopeful that members of the public or local businesses with CCTV footage may be able to assist with their enquiries.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is urged to contact West Yorkshire Police. Information can also be passed on anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
