A man has been charged after allegedly holding a woman up with a weapon and stealing her Range Rover, only to crash it just two streets away from where he took it.
The incident has left locals shaken, with the brazen nature of the alleged carjacking raising serious concerns about street safety in the area.
Police say the woman was targeted by the suspect who produced a weapon and demanded her keys before making off in the luxury vehicle. The getaway, however, did not go to plan. The stolen Range Rover was found crashed a short distance away, barely two streets from where the alleged robbery took place.
The man was tracked down and charged in connection with the incident. Officers confirmed the charge follows a carjacking in which the victim, a woman, was threatened with a weapon before her vehicle was taken from her.
Carjackings involving weapons are treated as serious offences by Police Scotland, and incidents of this nature are relatively uncommon but deeply alarming for communities when they do occur. The use of a weapon during the alleged theft means the suspect faces significant charges.
