Gardaí are appealing for a young woman to come forward after a Congolese man in his mid-30s died following an incident on one of Dublin city centre’s busiest streets earlier this year.
The man died after an incident on Henry Street in Dublin back in May. Investigators believe a young woman was knocked down during the same incident and are now urging her to get in touch, as she could hold vital information about what happened that day.
Henry Street is one of the most heavily trafficked pedestrian areas in the capital, packed with shoppers and commuters throughout the day. Despite the public setting, gardaí are still working to piece together the full picture of events and are appealing directly to anyone who may have witnessed what happened or who was caught up in it themselves.
The young woman in question has not yet made contact with investigators. Gardaí believe she may not realise how important her account could be to the investigation, or she may be unaware that they are actively looking to speak with her.
Investigating officers have stressed that she is not in any trouble and that the appeal is purely about gathering information. Anyone with details about the incident, or anyone who thinks they might be the woman gardaí are referring to, is being asked to come forward as soon as possible.
The death of the man, who was in his mid-30s and originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been the subject of an ongoing garda investigation since May. His family have been informed.
Gardaí are asking anyone with information to contact their nearest garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
