A man and woman from Brynmawr have appeared in court facing serious drug supply charges, with prosecutors alleging the pair were involved in dealing heroin and crack cocaine in the area.
The two defendants, both from the Blaenau Gwent town, stood before magistrates to face the accusations against them. The charges relate to the supply of class A drugs, which carry some of the heaviest penalties in the criminal justice system.
Heroin and crack cocaine are considered among the most harmful substances on the streets, and police forces across south Wales have been stepping up efforts to tackle the supply networks that bring these drugs into local communities.
Brynmawr, a small town sitting on the northern edge of the South Wales Valleys, has seen policing efforts focused on disrupting county lines and local drug dealing operations in recent years, part of a wider push by Gwent Police to cut off supply routes feeding addiction across the region.
The case has been passed up to a higher court for further proceedings, as is standard with class A drug supply offences given the seriousness of the charges involved. Both defendants are expected to appear again as the case progresses through the court system.
No pleas were entered at this stage of proceedings.
Sad state of affairs tbh, Brynmawr’s a small place so this’ll hit the community pretty hard. Hope they get proper sentences rather than a slap on the wrist like usual.
