A man has been fined after his car collided with a school bus carrying pupils from Perth High School, leaving the vehicle stranded on one of the city’s main roads.
The incident happened on Dundee Road in Perth while the bus was making its morning run to Perth High School. The collision was serious enough to put the bus out of action, leaving it broken down at the roadside with students on board.
The driver responsible was taken to court over the crash and has since been handed a fine as punishment for his role in the incident. While the outcome could have been far worse given the number of young passengers on the bus at the time, the case highlights the very real dangers that can unfold on busy commuter routes when school transport is involved.
Dundee Road is one of Perth’s key arterial routes, used heavily during the morning rush hour by commuters, delivery vehicles and school transport alike. A broken down bus on that stretch would have caused significant disruption, with pupils left waiting while the situation was dealt with.
Parents and staff at Perth High School were made aware of the situation, and arrangements were made to ensure pupils were looked after following the breakdown.
The fine handed to the driver brings the case to a close through the courts, though for many of the young people on board that morning, it was likely a frightening experience they won’t forget in a hurry.
