Predatory Sex Attacker Who Targeted Stranger in Dunfermline Locked Up

A man has been jailed after carrying out a predatory sexual assault on a young woman he had never met in Dunfermline.

Peter Dale attacked the 20-year-old victim in what a court heard was a calculated and opportunistic assault on a stranger. The case has now concluded with Dale being sentenced to a custodial term following his conviction.

The attack took place in Dunfermline, with prosecutors describing Dale’s behaviour as predatory. The young woman, who had no prior connection to her attacker, was targeted completely at random.

Judges and sheriffs across Scotland have in recent years made clear that sexual assaults of this nature, carried out against strangers in public settings, will be treated with the utmost seriousness. Dale’s case was no exception, with the court making plain that the predatory nature of the offence was a significant factor in the sentencing decision.

Sexual assault cases involving unknown victims are considered particularly alarming by prosecutors because they point to offending behaviour that is not situational but deliberate. There is no prior relationship, no dispute, no context. The victim was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police Scotland and the Crown Office have continued to push for robust outcomes in cases involving sexual violence, and convictions like this one reflect the broader effort to ensure that those who commit such offences face meaningful consequences.

The victim, who was 20 at the time of the assault, had her life disrupted by an attack that came completely out of nowhere. Support services in Scotland, including Rape Crisis Scotland, continue to assist survivors of sexual violence throughout the legal process and beyond.

Dale is now behind bars following the sentencing.

  1. Glad they got him off the streets. Hope the victim gets proper support too, that sort of thing leaves a mark on people for years.
