Supply Teacher Jailed After Taking Over 100 Upskirt Photos Of His Own Pupils

A former supply teacher has been jailed after he was caught taking more than 100 upskirt photos of pupils at the schools where he worked, in a case that has shocked the education community across England.

The man, who worked across multiple schools as a supply teacher, secretly photographed female pupils without their knowledge or consent. But the offending did not stop there. He also used artificial intelligence tools to create sexualised images of the same children, before sharing that material online.

The scale of what he did makes this case particularly disturbing. Upskirt photography is already a serious violation of privacy and dignity, but generating AI images that sexualise real, identifiable pupils takes the abuse to another level entirely. These were children in his care, in classrooms where they were supposed to feel safe.

Upskirt photography was made a specific criminal offence in England and Wales under the Voyeurism Act 2019, following a long campaign by victims and activists who argued existing laws were not strong enough to protect people from this kind of intrusive and degrading behaviour. The law made it clear that photographing beneath someone’s clothing without consent, particularly with the intent to obtain sexual gratification or cause humiliation, carries serious consequences.

The creation and distribution of child sexual abuse material, including AI-generated content involving real children, is treated with equal seriousness by the courts. Prosecutors and judges have made clear in recent years that using new technology to create such images does not make the offending any less harmful, particularly when the victims are real people who can be identified from the content.

The case raises urgent questions about safeguarding checks and how supply teachers are monitored across different school settings. Unlike permanent staff who are embedded in a single school community, supply teachers move between multiple sites, sometimes with less oversight from senior staff who may not know them well. Campaigners have previously called for tighter monitoring and clearer reporting lines for temporary teaching staff.

Parents of children at the affected schools are likely to be deeply concerned, not just about what happened, but about how long it went on before anyone noticed. With over 100 images taken, this was not a single moment of opportunistic offending. It was repeated, calculated behaviour carried out in environments specifically designed to protect young people.

Schools across England are required to carry out Disclosure and Barring Service checks on all staff, including supply teachers, before they begin working with children. Following a conviction of this nature, the individual will be added to the barred list, meaning he cannot work with children again in any capacity.

The judge sentencing him made clear that the breach of trust involved made the offending all the more serious. Teachers hold a position of authority and responsibility, and exploiting that position to abuse and exploit the very pupils they are meant to support is treated as a significant aggravating factor by the courts.

Victim support organisations have pointed out that cases like this can have long-lasting effects on the young people involved, many of whom may not have been aware at the time that they were being photographed or that images of them were being shared online. The psychological impact of discovering that a trusted adult has violated your privacy in such a profound way can be severe and long-lasting.

The case is also a reminder of the growing challenge posed by AI-generated abuse material. Law enforcement agencies across England have been working to keep pace with the technology, but the ease with which such images can now be created has raised serious concerns among child protection experts. Calls are growing louder for even tougher legislation specifically targeting the generation of AI content that sexualises real children.

The former teacher has been jailed and will face strict conditions upon any future release.

  1. Absolute vile creep. Hope he rots in there honestly, those poor kids didn’t deserve that from someone who was supposed to be looking after them. Makes my skin crawl.

  2. Absolute nonce. Hope he rots in there, disgusting behaviour from someone in a position of trust. Those poor kids.
