Two teenage girls are facing possible jail time after launching a violent ambush on a man and woman outside a Glasgow chip shop late last year.
The pair, both aged 17, targeted their victims at the Blue Lagoon takeaway on Gordon Street on December 16, 2025, in what prosecutors described as a premeditated attack on the unsuspecting couple.
The two teens pounced on the man and woman in what witnesses described as a sudden and unprovoked assault outside the popular city centre chippy. The victims were left shaken following the attack, which took place in one of Glasgow city centre’s busier streets.
Both girls have since appeared in court in connection with the incident. Given their ages, they cannot be named, but a judge has made clear that custody is firmly on the table when it comes to sentencing.
The Blue Lagoon on Gordon Street is a well-known spot in the heart of Glasgow, regularly busy with locals and late-night visitors grabbing a bite to eat. The brazen nature of the attack, carried out in such a public location, has raised serious concerns about youth violence in the city centre.
Youth violence has been a growing talking point across Scottish courts in recent months, with sheriffs and judges increasingly vocal about the need for tougher consequences when young offenders carry out serious assaults. This case looks set to add to that conversation.
Sentencing is expected to follow in due course, with the court weighing up the severity of the attack against the ages of those involved.
