Sarsfields Win LGFA Junior C Title Thanks To Super-Sub Sarah’s Two-Goal Heroics

Sarsfields claimed the LGFA Junior C championship crown in dramatic fashion, with a match-winning performance from super-sub Sarah proving the difference between the two sides in a thrilling final against Kilanerin.

The game finished Sarsfields 4-7, Kilanerin 1-9, and while it might look comfortable enough on paper, anyone who was there will tell you it was anything but a straightforward win for Sarsfields.

Kilanerin pushed hard throughout and made a real contest of it, keeping themselves in the hunt right until the closing stages. But it was the introduction of Sarah off the bench that ultimately swung the game in Sarsfields favour. The impact substitute grabbed two crucial goals at vital moments, the kind of cameo that finals are built around and the sort of performance players dream about delivering on the big day.

Two goals from a substitute in a championship final is no small thing. It takes composure, timing, and a serious bit of quality to come off the bench cold and deliver like that when the stakes are highest. Sarah had all three in abundance.

Sarsfields showed real character to get over the line. Kilanerin are no pushovers and they will be bitterly disappointed with how things ended, having put in enough work over the course of the game to feel they were very much in with a shout. Their 1-9 tally shows they were competitive and scoring, but Sarsfields four goals in total proved to be the decisive factor.

Goals win games, and that old saying rang true here. The ability to find the net, particularly through their super-sub, gave Sarsfields a cushion that Kilanerin simply could not close out despite their best efforts.

For Sarsfields, this is a title that will mean everything to the club and the players involved. Junior championships carry huge meaning at grassroots level, where players give up their time week in week out for the love of the jersey with none of the spotlight that inter-county football brings. Winning a county final is the reward for all of that effort, and the celebrations will have been well earned.

It is also a reminder of the depth of talent coming through at club level in Wexford ladies football. Both teams put on a final worth watching, and the standard on show gave plenty of reasons for optimism about the game in the county going forward.

For Kilanerin, there will be hurt after this one. Getting to a county final takes a serious run of form and they should take pride in reaching the decider. But finals are won and lost on moments, and on this occasion those moments belonged to Sarsfields and one player in particular who came off the bench and wrote herself into the club’s history books.

Sarsfields are Junior C champions, and Sarah is the name everyone will be talking about.
