St. Ibar’s/Shelmalier delivered a brilliant performance to claim the Under-16 Camogie Premier Championship title, beating Rathnure St. Anne’s by a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-10 in a final that had plenty of quality on show from both sides.
The game was a real treat for anyone who turned up to watch, with two well-matched teams going at it hard from the first whistle. It was the kind of underage final that reminds you just how much talent is coming through in Wexford camogie, with young players on both sides showing skill and determination well beyond their years.
St. Ibar’s/Shelmalier had the edge when it mattered most though. Their ability to find the back of the net on three occasions proved to be the decisive factor, as those goals gave them a cushion that Rathnure St. Anne’s, despite their best efforts, were ultimately unable to close.
Rathnure St. Anne’s were no pushovers and kept pushing right through the game, finishing with 2-10 to their name. They will take plenty of heart from this performance even in defeat, knowing they pushed the eventual champions all the way in a final that could have gone either way at stages.
For St. Ibar’s/Shelmalier, it is a title that will mean a huge amount to the players, their families, and everyone connected with the club. Winning a Premier final at any grade is a serious achievement, and doing it at Under-16 level sets a strong foundation for what these players might go on to achieve in the years ahead.
The game added another exciting chapter to what has been a strong underage camogie season in Wexford, with the standard on display in this final a real positive sign for the future of the game in the county.
