Inquiry launched after girl, 3, murdered at Surrey home

A murder investigation has been launched after a three-year-old girl was found dead at a residential property in Surrey. Detectives have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the tragic discovery, which police believe occurred within a “family setting”.

Emergency services, including officers from Surrey Police and paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, were called to a property in a quiet suburban neighbourhood on Wednesday evening following reports of a medical emergency involving a child. Upon entering the address, emergency responders discovered the body of the young girl. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after police arrived. He remains in custody at a local police station, where he is being questioned by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team. Officers have confirmed that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Fisher, who is leading the investigation, expressed the profound sadness felt by the emergency services and the local community. “This is an unspeakably devastating incident which has resulted in the tragic loss of a very young life,” she said. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are foremost with the child’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.”

She added: “We have a dedicated team of officers working tirelessly to establish the exact circumstances of what took place. While we fully understand the shock and concern this will cause within the local community, we believe this was an isolated incident that occurred within a family setting, and there is no wider threat to the public.”

A police cordon remains in place around the property, with forensic investigators in white suits seen entering and leaving the house. Local residents expressed their deep shock and grief as news of the tragedy spread through the area on Thursday morning. Several floral tributes, teddy bears, and messages of condolence have been left near the scene.

Surrey Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the ongoing investigation to contact them immediately. They have also requested that the family’s privacy be respected and urged the public to refrain from speculation on social media.
