Phyllida Law, the Glasgow-born actress and mother of Dame Emma Thompson, has passed away at the age of 94.
The news was confirmed by her granddaughter Gaia Wise, daughter of Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise, who shared the sad news on behalf of the family.
Law was born in Glasgow and went on to build a career in acting that spanned decades, becoming a familiar and beloved face on both stage and screen. While she may have often been recognised as the mother of one of Britain’s most celebrated actresses, Phyllida Law was very much a talent in her own right.
Her acting credits stretched across television, film and theatre, and she worked consistently throughout her life, earning respect from audiences and fellow performers alike. She appeared alongside her daughter Emma on a number of occasions, and the pair were known to share a close and warm relationship both on and off screen.
